Hello Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to find out what is happening with Outpost Ministries here in Guatemala. We have a lot going on, but I would first like to begin with a testimony that highlights the effect we are having on the children in Pixabaj. One day, while in Pixabaj, I was invited by Herson to come into the 3rd grade class. Upon entering I was greeted by all the 3rd graders sitting at their desks with their Bibles open. I immediately learned that the children had some questions regarding certain scriptures that they were reading. Needless to say, I was delighted to help. One girl in particular had a question regarding Mathew 6:14-15 which says “14For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” I soon learned that the boys and girls in the classroom were in an argument as a result of a game they played the previous day in which the girls lost. After explaining the verse, the girls realized the significance of the scripture in their own lives and soon asked for forgiveness from the boys. My experience that day with the 3rd graders left me feeling like our goals were being accomplished. The school is not only providing the children with a quality education, but also instructing them how to become men and women with God centered character. I am very excited to see what God will do next.
We have made significant steps toward bringing a consistent and reliable water supply to the school. As many of you already know our water situation has been a struggle. Our old well went dry so we have had to rely on the children’s parents’ to truck the water into the school using large water jugs, which has been very tedious and extremely difficult. In February of this past year Jim Hutson from Tehachapi, California donated well drilling equipment, but we have so far been unable to use it because the team who was supposed to come down to help drill it was forced to cancel last minute due to some problems with the airline they were flying. Recently however, our prospects improved with the purchase of a natural spring located about 2 km away, though we are still several months away from getting the water from the spring to the school. In addition, we are also planning on digging a new well with the donated equipment.
In other news, over the past week we had the pleasure of hosting a group from Maplewood Church in Sedalia, Missouri. The group was headed up by Ron Jobe and his wife Carol along with five college age students. They came to minister to youth in Pixabaj as well as some surrounding communities through sports and Bible study. We were very blessed to have them and saw God work mightily through them. On a final note, I would like to ask for continued prayer as we seek the right students for next year in order to double the number of students from 130 to 260. I will be traveling to the States in September and October seeking new sponsorships for the new students. If interested, please contact us through the website by clicking here.
Blessings,
Carlos
