Meet the New Pastor
It has been a difficult period for Iglesia de
Cristo Monte Carmelo in Pixabaj since the passing of Pastor Alejandro. Months passed when the church had no
pastor of its own. Therefore, it
is with much joy that we present to you the new Pastor of Iglesia de Cristo
Monte Carmelo. His name is Victor
Hugo Jocholá and he, along with is wife Toribia and their six children,
recently moved from Guatemala City to live and serve in Pixabaj. In an effort to let you know more about
him and his vision for Pixabaj, I recently sat down with him and his wife to
ask them a few questions.
Enjoy!
Welcome to
Pixabaj! How are you and your
family feeling since the move?
We are doing well. There are a few things that have been difficult to adapt to,
but God is getting us through. I
strongly believe that the Lord has sent us here to restore lives in Pixabaj and
I am confident we are where we belong.
Explain to
me your vision for the church here in Pixabaj.
I would like to see the people grow in their
relationship with the Lord. To
accomplish this we need to break down many of the barriers that hinder work of
the Holy Spirit such as idolatry and machismo, which have been manipulating the
lives of the people here. I also have big plans for the church building
itself. I would like to remodel
the church building and the pastoral house, which would include a second story
for weekly church meetings and Sunday school classes, and build a small parking
structure. To help fund this
project we have begun passing out over a hundred plastic piggy banks for
people to fill with their spare change.
When they get full, we have asked that they turn them in as an offering for the
church.
What are
some of the needs for you and your family that you have encountered since
moving to Pixabaj?
Upon arriving here I immediately realized we
were going to need a new vehicle. Something like a minibus with 4-wheel drive that could
easily transport my family. We are
also in need of a computer to help get things more organized around here and
for my children to have the opportunity to learn important skills.
Is there
anything you would like to say to the people in the United States supporting the ministry at the school in
Pixabaj?
Please pray for my family and me as we make this
difficult transition. We are
encountering a lot of spiritual opposition and resistance to some necessary
changes. Please pray for the Lord
to animate us and exalt us as we move forward. Our work for the Lord is not in vain. We must remain obedient and listen when
the bible tells us “And what ever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in
the name of the Lords Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Colossians 3:17
